Former WWE champion goes off on Sheamus for mocking what nearly killed his career
Sheamus joined forces with Ridge Holland and Pete Dunne, formerly known as Butch, to form the Brawling Brutes in November 2021. The trio had a great run as a face stable on SmackDown before the Irish wrestler got injured in 2023. The group never re-formed, as the Bruiserweight formed a tag team with Tyler Bate. Furthermore, the former rugby player went back down to NXT.
The Brawling Brutes resumed their storyline a couple of weeks ago on Raw when Dunne betrayed Sheamus and turned heel. He further explained his frustration with the former Royal Rumble winner during a recent episode of Raw Talk. He was frustrated that the Irish called him ‘Butch’ and said that gimmick nearly killed his career.
Pete Dunne was one of the breakout stars of NXT UK and a highly promising star in development. However, being part of the Brawling Brutes under a new gimmick derailed nearly all of his momentum, and he felt like a sidekick to the former World Champion. He was also furious at The Great White for making fun of him after this incident.
The 30-year-old returned to his old name shortly after Sheamus went out with an injury. Since then, he has appeared on multiple PLEs, including WrestleMania, and will now look to win the Intercontinental Championship by participating in the #1 Contender’s tournament.
For Sheamus, that scumbag, to turn around and still call me Butch, to have a laugh that something that nearly killed my career, this is all I’ve got, man. He knows that. All I’ve ever been and ever will be is a fighter. To be demoralized and reduced to that name, it shows what kind of person he really is.
Pete Dunne on Raw TalkAfter Dunne’s tag team partner, Tyler Bate, was injured during an episode of NXT, he made his return to the red brand to attack his former stablemate. The two have since been involved in a heated feud, which culminated in a singles match last week on Raw. The 46-year-old won the face-off after landing a Brogue Kick on the Bruiserweight.
Sheamus reveals that his match against Gunther was never supposed to happen
Throughout 2022 and 2023, Sheamus went on a mission to win the Intercontinental Championship. He had achieved everything there was to achieve in WWE, except this coveted title. This led to his rivalry against Gunther and their stellar five-star match at Clash at the Castle 2022.
During a recent appearance on the Pat McAfee show, the Celtic Warrior revealed that his match with Gunther was highly special to him. Furthermore, the match was never even supposed to happen. He was not involved in any major feud when WWE was going to Wales. Thus, he made a pitch to Triple H to have a match against the Ring General at the PLE.
I talked to Hunter about it, we spitballed back and forth, and then he went and made the match. I pitched that match in Wales. Fair play to him, he made it happen,”
Sheamus on The Pat McAfee showAlthough not natively from Wales, the venue was very close to the wrestling veteran’s home country of Ireland. Hunter took the pitch into consideration and went back and forth with the former WWE Champion to figure out what they were going to do. The King of Kings made the match happen, and the 46-year-old was grateful for it.
