Furious Nick Wright calls Aaron Rodgers a phony after missing Jets mandatory minicamp

When Aaron Rodgers told the New York Jets about his absence from the mandatory minicamp, he hadn’t thought about the amount of backlash he would have to endure. First, it was fans who called the quarterback a “fraud” and now, sports analyst Nick Wright has called him a ‘phony’ for missing the most crucial activity of the offseason program.

On the recent episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, when Colin Cowherd brought up the subject of the Jets’ QB missing minicamp, Wright couldn’t control himself and exploded with some harsh words for Aaron Rodgers. He even called him “disingenuous” for prioritizing any other event over Jets’ mandatory minicamp.

In Aaron’s world, he gave (the Jets) a heads up that he’s a busy guy with important things, which is why he’s such a phony. .... This wasn’t the last second event, like the birth of a child, those things can be excused. This was, (he) had two things going on in life today, (he) chose the other. That is not sustainable for a veteran, leader quarterback of an NFL team.
Nick Wright said

This isn’t the first time Wright has spoken with such harsh words for the 10-time Pro Bowler. Back in December last year, he strongly criticized Rodgers over his stance on the COVID-19 vaccine and called him the “most disingenuous athlete of my lifetime.”

Whenever there has been a controversy involving the quarterback’s name, Wright has never backed down from criticizing him. And this is probably the reason why Rodgers is called the nemesis of Wright.

Aaron Rodgers battling age, expectations, and the quest for redemption

The Jets quarterback was already in a tough position with six primetime games scheduled for the 2024 season. As the Jets are coming off one of their worst seasons, handling the pressure of these games is definitely not easy. But now, after missing the mandatory minicamp, he seems to have lost the support of fans who hoped for the Jets’ salvation under his leadership.

Moreover, Rodgers is entering his 20th season in the league, and it’s been some time since he performed to the standards he set for himself. The quarterback previously discussed the age factor, stating that if he didn’t perform well, he would be replaced by someone younger.

Same happened with his former team the Green Bay Packers, who drafted Jordan Love as Rodgers’ successor and the veteran quarterback was traded to the Jets. The starting position was then handed over to Love, who successfully led the team to a playoff victory last season.
