Seven-time Grammy Award-winning musician Shaun Martin, who has won four Grammys with Kirk Franklin and three as a member of Snarky Puppy, has sadly died.
Martin was reported dead via numerous social media posts shared by friends and gospel music insiders on Facebook and other social media sites on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024. He was 45 years old.
Snarky Puppy confirmed the death of Shaun Martin on Sunday, August 4th.
“Yesterday, we lost a music legend and, more importantly, a beautiful, luminous human being. Shaun Martin touched so many people during his life and through the beautiful immortality of music, will continue to do so,” the touching tribute read.

Shaun Martin was born on August 23, 1978, in Dallas, Texas. He started learning the piano when he was only four years old as he was tutored in classical music and jazz. He picked up gospel music from attending church with his mama every Sunday.
He started his education at DeSoto High School. He then attended the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas and then Weatherford College.
He graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree.
Martin’s journey toward greatness began when he formed a partnership with legendary gospel musician Kirk Franklin while only in High School. He began working as Franklin’s choir director.
Shaun Martin was also a member of the jazz fusion band Snarky Puppy, started by bassist Michael League, a fellow University of North Texas alum, in 2004. The group has performed with numerous legendary names including Erykah Badu, Justin Timberlake, Michael McDonald, Snoop Dogg, and Kirk Franklin.
Martin, via his collaborations with Snarky Puppy and Franklin, has won seven Grammy awards throughout his career.
Shaun Martin was married to Monica Wilson Martin with whom he shares son Harlem.

Dallas’ own global gift has messed up the world with his transition. Please keep Shaun Martin’s parents, sister, wife and child in your prayers…”
The death of Shaun Martin on August 3rd shocked many on social media as tons of netizens jumped on various platforms to wish to God that it was not true.

Tragically, it appears the musician Shaun Martin has indeed passed on to the next world as his band, Snarky Puppy sent out a touching tribute on Sunday, confirming his passing.
He had been battling health issues in recent years, with reports that he suffered a stroke. His family never confirmed what ailed him as they kept things private.
Martin was a legendary musician and he would be remembered for his impressive discography, otherworldly talent and his down-to-earth nature that endeared him to all who knew and worked with him.
His death is a massive blow to the music world. May he rest in peace.
